Vaccination Policy
Vaccination is a safe and effective public health measure that reduces the spread of infectious diseases and helps protect both individuals and the broader University of 麻豆社 community from preventable outbreaks. Maintaining high vaccination coverage is especially important in campus environments, where students live, learn, and interact in close proximity.
In accordance with guidance and regulations established by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Commonwealth law, the University requires all students to provide proof of immunization against certain diseases unless an exemption is granted. This requirement applies to every student (including, but not limited to, undergraduate, graduate, and professional) with any campus-based educational component. Only students enrolled exclusively in online academic programs with no campus-based educational components are exempt from this policy.
The University recognizes exemptions permitted under Pennsylvania law, including medical and religious exemptions. Students requesting an exemption must submit the required documentation in accordance with University procedures. Students who have an approved exemption may be subject to additional requirements or restrictions on campus access during outbreaks or periods of increased public health risk, as determined by the University and in alignment with public health guidance.
Students may also be required to meet additional immunization requirements to participate in clinical placements, field experiences, student teaching, internships, practicums, or other experiential learning activities. These requirements are determined by academic programs and/or external placement sites and may exceed the University baseline requirements. Students are responsible for consulting their academic college, advisor, or program director to ensure compliance. Exemptions granted through Student Health Services apply only to University requirements and do not override immunization or health standards set by academic programs, experiential learning sites, or external partners.
Compliance with this vaccination policy is essential to maintaining a safe and healthy campus community. Failure to comply with vaccination requirements or to obtain an approved exemption may result in administrative action consistent with University policy and applicable public health guidance, including limitations on enrollment, campus housing, and participation in University activities.
Vaccine Exemption Requests
Students may request a medical or religious vaccine exemption in accordance with applicable law. Vaccine exemption requests must be accompanied by medical or religious documentation. Medical documentation must come from a healthcare provider specifying the contraindication and the Immunization Waiver Request Form.
Immunization Waiver Request form and, if applicable, the Meningitis Waiver form. After completing Waiver Request forms, please upload your forms and supporting documentation in your Student Health Portal by following the instructions below:
- Log in to your
- Click “Upload” from the menu bar at the top of the page
- Choose which document you are uploading from the drop-down list (i.e., Immunization Waiver Request Form)
- Please ensure your name, Royal Number, and date of birth are all on supporting documentation.
- Click select file to see all of your electronic files on your computer or smartphone
- Click on the electronic file you want to upload
- Click Upload
Waiver submissions will be reviewed, and students will be emailed to be notified of the status of their Immunization Waiver Request.
Recommended Vaccinations
Serogroup B Meningococcal Vaccine: This vaccine is effective against most of the more common meningococcal infections caused by serogroup B.
Hepatitis B: A series of three doses is given.
Influenza: Recommended annually for all members of the campus community.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV): Two or three doses of vaccine are required, depending on the product.
Hepatitis A: Two doses given 6-18 months apart.
